Six Signs of Spring on a Saturday

With the positively Spring-like weather we’ve been having recently in Glasgow, signs of hope are starting to abound everywhere! So that’s the theme for this week’s #SixonSaturday: signs of Spring!

1.There is nothing I love more than the first sign of daffodils in all their yellow glory! That emerging bud waiting to burst forth – I can hardly contain my excitement! At this time of year, I start to go a bit Daffodil Daft!

2.With all perennials, there is always the fearful wait to see that they have made it through the Winter and the chives in the garden never let me down! Last Autumn, I split a large, congested clump of chives into three so the wait this year was to see that all three clumps made it through and so far, sightings of new growth are positive. They might not look pretty at this stage but those green signs of life are most welcome and as a Plant to Plate Herb, nothing is easier to grow!

3.Alchemilla Molis was a star plant in the garden last year, providing bright, lime green foliage cover in dark, awkward spaces and I await those gorgeous sprays of tiny flowers again this year. I’m keeping a keen eye for some self seeded Alchemilla Molis to lift into other spots in the garden as the ground cover alone provided by this plant means it deserves space in the borders but I do have 10 Reasons to Plant Alchemilla Molis in another post.

4.I was quite worried I wouldn’t see a single snowdrop this year as I dug up the bed they were in in the Autumn and rearranged everything. To be perfectly honest, I had completely forgotten that there even were snowdrops in there! Mother Nature hadn’t forgotten about these little snowdrops however, and here they are, emergent and triumphant!

5.The one plant that I want to double and triple in population in the garden is the Allium. I have loads planted in pots just now, waiting to pop in the ground once they show signs of life – well, actually when I finally get to the weed the borders where I want them to go forth and multiply. I am so happy to see the ones already planted showing such strong signs of a comeback – even though I had wanted to dig them up and move them to a better location! Beaten by Mother Nature again!

6.My final shot for this week’s #SixonSaturday is this pretty, little ladybird sunning herself on a Choisya Sundance – a most certain sign of Spring!
